Good

Thanksgiving week and Geek Craft

Hello Everybody,

I hope you guys have had a great week. If you celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you had a good Thanksgiving with your family or friends. If you weren’t able to be with those you love, then I hope that your Thanksgiving still went well. My week was a lot of fun. I had two days off of work so that was very nice. I had two Thanksgiving celebrations as well. It was fun to spend time with my family and eat really good food. Speaking of good food, the creamsicle cake I made with my mom was really good. It did have a little bit of that cheesecake taste to it and the cake part was super dense. I really liked it though and might have to make it again in the future.

This weekend we also went to a geek craft fair. The fair is always a lot of fun to go to and explore. I’ve found all sorts of fun creations there. I wish I had more money to spend so that I could get some of the cool stuff I’ve seen there. They have some amazing craftsman come out. Some of my favorites are the carpenters, 3D printers, and painters. There was a gentleman there running a booth for paintings that he’ll add nerdy content to, and he had and original print on sail for a $1000 that I really wanted to get. There were also some amazingly crafted Dungeons & Dragons Accessories. Currently so much of that stuff is just out of my budget, but someday I’ll hopefully be making more money and can afford to buy stuff like that and support these artists, but first I need to move to my own home.

Well till next week you guys. I hope you have a great week and I hope to have some good stories next week.

“Kingdom Hearts III,” Unites all of the Plots for Better or Worse

Kingdoms Hearts III is the third game of the main trilogy, but there are over ten games in the series. The Kingdom Hearts series is made by Square Enix in conjunction with Disney. This creates a unique game with different iconic characters from both universes and also adds new characters. This game changes many aspects of the previous games and adds many new characters. The series follows Sora a keyblade wielding warrior and his two friends Donald and Goofy. As a player you get to partially control the paths of Sora’s abilities and how your companions use their skills. All of these lend towards the play style of the player.

The game has similar gameplay to the Final Fantasy series. It is a third person hack and slash role playing game that gives players more than enough options for abilities in combat. As I stated above these lend to different play styles. The player can be more of a mage focusing on magic and summons. The player could also focus on damage using the keyblade and combo systems to decimate all foes in their path. While lastly the player can choose to be more of a tank focusing on survivability and delivering combos. All of these playstyles merge and constantly work together. As a player you can also choose what keyblades you use having up to three different blades equipped. Each blade has unique abilities and also provides the player with different form changes improving Sora’s combat prowess. There are also summons these can summon different characters or Disney attractions. The Disney attractions are things like the mad tea cups and pirate ship. These different attractions help with combat and give more complex interactions. The character summons also give the player new powerful ally’s such as Simba. All of these can lead to intense and complex battles. This also leads to conflict almost being too hectic and busy.

The games story is very complex and confusing. The story is meant to combine all the stories of every other game in the series. The story is based around Sora finding the power of waking. The game also includes the stories of every world. Some are new stories such as Olympus where you assist Hercules. Other worlds are basically the movies such as Arendelle which tells the story of Frozen. While this can be cool or fun it also leads to issues with the main story not being explored. This is also not helped by the complex nature of the core story. The games story struggles at points from not making the player feel included in the world’s stories. Since the game must follow the stories that Disney made this must make it more difficult to create unique stories. However, in previous games they made the players feel as though they had a huge impact on the worlds. This one is not necessarily like that. The stories are fun, but it can take away from the core story. The impressive visuals and gameplay also create a beautiful visual narrative.

The game has many good points but also some bad points. The gameplay is amazing and flows beautifully. However, it has so many nuances and abilities that this makes combat too complex at times. It also isn’t helpful that you can’t always choose which of your abilities you use. These are the most powerful abilities in your arsenal but if you have several lined up you can’t pick between them. Another negative lies in the issues with the story telling as the core story is so rarely told. I will say these negatives aren’t game ending.

After looking at all of the negatives and positives I would give it a seven out of ten. The game has amazing gameplay. The story is also very enjoyable leading to an amazing ending. However, with the story’s failings and the combats issues these all lend to it’s score being lowered. I enjoyed the game and am excited to see where the series goes, but I won’t be playing it again for a long time.

Game Writing a Unique Type of Writing

Hello everybody,

I hope you all have had a great week and that it was filled with excitement. My week was pretty good. I continued with making steps towards finishing a side project. I’ve been making progress on my story bible, sadly not as much as I’d like. I also have decided to sell a bunch of my old trading cards. I’ve never actually sold trading cards before with the mindset of actually making some amount of money. It’s weird to go through the process as I’m also not sure what the best way is to sell them. I’ve been told eBay but I’m not well versed in selling on eBay. I was also looking into TCGPlayer but they were a bit more convoluted. I decided to sell my more expensive cards on eBay while seeing if I can sell my cheaper cards at a card store for good money. I felt the need to get rid of my cards so I can clear space and maybe someday I can start a new collection. I’m keeping some cards for sentimental reasons, plus I have some cards that are hidden somewhere that I’ll have to find.

I had fun last week talking about story bibles so this week I thought I’d talk about how game writing differs from screenplay, animation, and prose. Game writing’s key point of difference is the way it is consumed by the audience. With game writing the audience is a part of the story unlike almost all other forms of writing. This means that often game writing is more in depth as you have to account for the different possibilities that a player might come up with. It also is very heavily influenced by the form of game you are writing for. In a more linear game like a Call of Duty your story will be very straightforward with very few extra story moments. While a game like Fallout is very expansive and will often have a much longer story or expansive story. This isn’t always the case but it tends to be like that. You also have to create what are called barks. These are the various random bits of dialogue that a character might say. These can be exclamations of pain or a joke or a ‘hello’. These are the simplified ways that define game writing versus other forms of writing.

Well till next week you guys. I hope that you have a great week and that I have some good news next week. I also like giving these little lessons on writing, and I hope you guys are enjoying them to.

Thanksgiving

Hello my friends!

I hope you guys had an awesome week. I had a relatively easy week spending most of it with my family. The first few days of the week were spent doing my typical routine of job hunt and work on side projects. I’m still waiting to hear from some of the companies I’ve applied to, I’m excited and hopeful though. We also went Christmas tree shopping. I always loved Christmas tree shopping and trying to find the perfect tree. This year I think we found a beautiful tree. The last portion of the week I went to see Fantastic Beasts and the Crimes of Grindelwald. I enjoyed the movie, but I feel like it was probably the worst of the Harry Potter movies. It was a necessary film, but I felt like nothing was really accomplished. I’m sure it’ll fit in well once the next movie is released. My Thanksgiving was very unique this year.

This was the first Thanksgiving I’ve had with my family in three years. It was nice to have that again. While in Florida I had participate in Friendsgivings and Thanksgiving that was hosted by my friends families. It’s always so much fun to be at a Thanksgiving celebration. Just being surrounded by people you love and amazing food. This Thanksgiving, however, had a moment of sadness. I was informed that my Uncle Chris had died. He had been my babysitter growing up. I will say, this was a call we had been expecting. He had issues with drugs and various other things. However, we all loved him and he had been a great Uncle. He was growing and moving forward as a person, he will be missed. The rest of Thanksgiving had gone well and it was a reminder of how important it is to always be thankful.

Well till next week you guys. I hope you have an awesome week and I hope to bring you good news.
